All school and college kids are heading back to school in the next few weeks.  Come out to the lake and get that last dip in the water before cooler weather arrives. Before we know it Fall will be at out backs blowing in. Pk has some great restaurants you can drive your boat to and enjoy dinner in the evenings if your coming out later in the day to beat the heat.  BigFish has plenty of homes on the market as we near the end of the summer.  We were Very busy the last few months making dreams come true for a lot of families this summer. Possum kingdom Fireworks!

July fourth came and went in a flurry of activity.  It ended up being a great weekend to be on the water in spite of the weather.  On Saturday night Hells gate had a spectacular show of fireworks as usual. On Sunday night Possum Hollow had a wonderful show of fireworks also.  All around the lake you could see fireworks going off.  If you weren't here this year, try and make it next year!

Mineral Wells Rodeo

The Rodeo is coming to Mineral Wells – May 6th to the 8th, 2010

  The Rodeo parade starts at 5 pm on Thursday and runs thru the downtown area.  Most all the trail riders ride in the parade and the grand entry that night at the rodeo.  Saturday night is the crowning of the Rodeo Queen.  Double D is having a concert Friday night after the rodeo.

This is a great thing to take your family to.  The entertainment is wonderful!

 The rodeo grounds are across from Walmart near the Mineral Wells High School.  The rodeo begins at 8 pm every night (May 6 - 8, 2010). 

This is the first year the rodeo is for 3 days only.

In what looks like something from out of this world, PK's runoff from torrential rains created a phenomenon below the dam that left locals and experts guessing all week at its origin.  We finally have an answer from the Brazos River Authority that attempts to explain the Mystery of the Foamy Phenomenon.  

Although we heard wild and crazy rumors all week that the foamy substance was caused by everything from golden algae bloom to suntan lotion products and even "processed beer", the BRA reports the foam is nothing more than a naturally occurring process caused by the release of chemical compounds contained in the runoff from recent heavy rains.  To read the technical explanation provided by the Brazos River Authority, click here.

The location of the function is the Los Vaqueros Banquet Hall in Willow Park on Saturday, April 10th from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm. Quilt Retreat 2010

The Annual Quilt Retreat is coming up in three weeks.  I live for this weekend! 

My quilt group, famously called the "Crazy Quilters," heads up to Mitchells Resort and RV Park located in Perrin TX.  There we spend three days quilting, talking, eating, playing games and enjoying wonderful fellowship.  And we bunk in the cutest little cabins that you've ever seen!  The Park offers golf, swimming and fishing.

Our group has been together for about nine years.  They are the funniest, craziest women you'll ever meet.  We meet once a month at Patty's Quilt Shop from 5 – 7 pm the first tuesday of the month; on the second Saturday of each month we meet at the Masonic Lodge in Mineral Wells for an all-day sew day.

Who would have ever thought that Possum Kingdom Lake would get a racetrack?

Well, it's here....PK Speedway is the newest attraction at PK Lake.  The PK Speedway and Family Fun Center is located at the corner of Park Road 36 and Hwy 16. 

Go Karts - Arcade  - Party Rooms - Speedway Cafe ... and in the future, expect some Putt Putt, too!

So, when you get dried out from being in the water all day check out the speedway; it sounds like a lot of fun!

 

Spring is Here!

You can feel it in the air! Spring is here! 

Are going to plant a garden?  Here is a great idea for you if you would like to plant potatoes in a limited space:

Round up a couple of old tires and some extra dirt and some potato eyes.  Lay a tire on the ground and fill with dirt.  Plant a potato eye. Water and fertilize as usual.  When the plant gets taller add another tire and some dirt.  Leave about 6" growing above the dirt.  Continue with as many tires as you like.  When your potatoes are done, just pull a tire off and enjoy!  The entire stack of tires will be full of potatoes. 

Store all your potatoes in a cool dry space and they will last you quite a while.

Possum Kingdom Lake's Mardi Gras celebration is scheduled for March 6th.  This year represents the 13th year and I don't know how it could get any better than it has been in the past, but somehow it always does.  Once you attend one you'll try to make it every year.  People drive from out of state to partake in the fun.  The parade starts at 3:00 PM and the Shrimp Fest follows in the evening.  Need more information?  Just ask me.
